4 Adorable Tricks You Can Teach Your Cat at Home

Cats are adorable, funny, and smart. In fact, they’re one of the smartest animals on the planet alongside dogs, monkeys, and dolphins. 
Everyone knows you can teach tricks to a dog. But what most people don’t know is that cats can easily be taught some tricks as well. 
Your cat can be the coolest cat on the block if you’re willing to put in the effort. Admittedly, training cats is not easy, but it can be if you know how to do it right. 
So without further ado, here’s our list of 4 Adorable Tricks You Can Teach Your Cat at Home.

1). Sit DownMost dog owners train their dogs to sit when they say it. They show off their pet’s skills to their friends and family, but who says cat owners can’t do the same?
Experts recommend teaching this trick before any other. That’s because it’s simple and easy to teach. Here’s how you can train your cat to sit:

1. Hold your cat’s favorite food in hand to gain her attention.
   
2. Hold it above her head, ideally a few inches above her ears and move it towards her tail. This way she will have no choice but to sit, slightly at least.
   
3. While you’re doing this, say “sit”.
   
4. When she sits, reward her with a well-earned treat.
   

2). High-five:This is one of everyone’s favorites, including ours too. Because nothing says cool friendship like a fun high-five from your pet.
Training a cat to high-five is just as easy as training her to sit, but it might take more time. Here’s how you can teach her:

1. Hold her favorite food in hand
   
2. Place your hand a few inches above her head
   
3. Once she notices, start moving your hand up slowly
   
4. When your cat tries to reach it with her paw, high-five her and also say “High-five!”
   
5. Then reward her with the treat
   

3). Jump Through a HoopTraining your cat to jump through a hoop is fun and a skill you can show off to your friends.
Here’s how you can do it:

1. This is a two-person job, so get someone else to hold the hoop
   
2. Hold your cat’s favorite toy or food in hand
   
3. Start by luring your cat slowly towards her treat
   
4. Once she starts following, position yourself behind the hoop and make sure the hoop is at a reasonable jumping distance/height
   
5. Cats naturally have fast reflexes so she’s most likely to jump through the hoop
   
6. Once she does, reward her with the treat
   

This is a difficult trick and will probably take a ton of tries but it’s totally worth it.
4). FetchFetch is one of the most common tricks people teach to pets. It’s a great trick because it’s so much fun yet so easy to teach. Here’s how you can teach it to your cat:

1. Hold her favorite toy to grab her attention
   
2. Once she is engaged, throw it away and say the word “fetch!”
   
3. It may take a few tries for her to get the idea--so be patient
   
4. Once she picks it up, hold her favorite food in hand and say, “Bring it to me”
   
5. Once she brings it to you, say “give it” and try to get her to push it out of her mouth and into your hands
   
6. If she gives it to you, let her enjoy the treat as a reward
   

All these words “fetch”, “bring it to me”, and “give it” act as cue words for triggering specific actions in your cat’s brain.
